The 2014 pistachio harvest is wrapping up to be a success. The projected outcome was anticipated to be much higher than previous years, but due to the drought and unusual blossoming through the year the total crop will be about 475 million pounds which is on average with past years. The low hopper trailers were completely rented out and now are being returned from satisfied customers. Thankfully there is still a high demand for pistachios in the US and China and with a lower than expected crop yield the price will increase and will fall somewhere above $3 per pound during the next year according to Paramount Farms general manager of grower relations, Andy Anzaldo.
